Metrolinx is expanding to serve you better, with more frequent service, cleaner technology and transforming GO Transit to bring more frequent two-way, all-day service to the Barrie line, which serves the Newmarket community. The Barrie Go line expansion will provide easier ways to seamlessly get where you need to go.

As part of the project to facilitate the electrification of the provincial Metrolinx GO Expansion program, NT Power must relocate existing electricity distribution lines across the railway tracks at multiple locations.

Mulock Dr. South Railway Crossing

A contract has been awarded to Avertex Utility Solutions Inc. (“Avertex”) to perform the work on NT Power’s behalf. This project is currently in construction and is expected to be completed by Spring 2023.

         Update: May 15, 2023

Construction is expected to be completed by the end of May 2023. To complete this work in a safe manner,

NT Power has identified that a six (6) hour outage is required. The power outage is scheduled to occur on

Monday, May 22, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. This time was chosen to minimize the impact to the area as much as possible.

What can you expect?

  • Due to the nature of the work, there will be construction-related noise and dust from the equipment and trucks, though every effort to minimize this will be made.
  • The work will be contained to a few parking spots on the east side of Doug Duncan Drive. These spots will be occupied as Metrolinx works through the area. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.

         Update: February 22, 2023:

On February 21 to April 21, one northbound lane will be closed on Doug Duncan Drive, north of Timothy

Street due to relocation of overhead power lines for the Metrolinx Electrification Project.

The closure of the lane will occur during the following period:

          Tuesday, February 21 at 7:30 a.m. to Friday, April 21 at 6 p.m.

Alternative routes are available - see map below.
